James
R. Wakefield, P.C., joined Cummins & White, LLP in 1986 and became
a partner in 1991. Mr. Wakefield's practice focuses on casualty
defense, transportation, commercial and real estate litigation,
and all aspects of construction litigation. From 2000 through 2005, Mr. Wakefield served
as Cummins & White's managing partner .
Mr. Wakefield has tried over 30 jury trials, with a high degree of success, involving business torts, real estate disputes, construction contract claims, and high-exposure product liability cases. He represents commercial clients in all manner of business disputes, including business torts, collections, breach of contract, breach of lease and other real estate disputes. Mr. Wakefield handles premises liability disputes on behalf of individuals, building owners, property managers and insurance companies.
Mr. Wakefield is a member of the State Bar of California. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. Mr. Wakefield is a member of the California State Bar Association's Business Law and Intellectual Property Sections, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. He enjoys Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory's highest "AV" rating for lawyers.
Mr. Wakefield received his B.A. in Philosophy from California State University at Fullerton (1978). He earned a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (1981). Mr. Wakefield was an extern law clerk for the Honorable Edward C. Reed, Jr., U.S. District Court, District of Nevada (1979-1980); and served as a law clerk for the Honorable A. Andrew Hauk, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (1981-1982).
Mr. Wakefield helped establish the Friendship Club in Los Angeles in 1990, which works with mentally challenged adults to teach them self-esteem and living skills. He now serves the organization in an advisory capacity.
Mr. Wakefield was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He and his family reside in Seal Beach, California.
