Courtroom Experience Reminds Me of a Seinfeld Episode

Do you remember the final episode of Seinfeld? In the courtroom was everyone the foursome had offended throughout the years. One after another, the witnesses came forward, reminding Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer of all the selfish and dishonest (albeit funny) things they had done in past episodes of the show.

I was reminded of that experience recently when I testified in a criminal trial against Lying Linda (alias). The case against Linda was filed by the district attorney based on acts where fraud was alleged. I was there to testify about an insurance claim that Linda had made to my insurance company client – a claim that had been denied for fraud almost ten years earlier. Charges were not brought based on my client’s claim… we were basically there to show pattern and practice.

Similar to the many witnesses that testified against Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer, I was just one of almost 70 witnesses at the trial. I wondered how Linda’s life might have been different had she made different choices. The case will go to the jury soon. It will be interesting to find out what the jury decides.
